Before choosing the BSV wallet, ask yourself the following questions: how do you want to use your Bitcoin SV? Do you want to make the most of its ecosystem, or do you simply want to invest in it and store it along with other coins? How passionate are you about BSV? In this article, we brought together 7 decent Bitcoin SV wallets. Answers to the questions above will help you choose the one that suits your needs best.
First, something to pay specific attention to — splitting your BSV and BCH
Bitcoin SV hard forked from Bitcoin Cash on November 15, 2018. A group of users led by Craig Wright insisted on increasing the BCH block size to 128 MB to “restore the original Satoshi’s vision.” The other camp was arguing that the coin doesn’t need such changes. This contradiction resulted in a “hash war” where both parties were trying to put in as much hash power as they could to displace their adversary. But no one won, and both BCH and BSV continued to exist.
However, one problem remained unresolved for the users: since the fork, their BCH and BSV were stored on the same addresses. After sending 10 BCH, a user could find out that 10 BSV were also sent without the user’s intent. This problem is relevant for those who bought their BCH before the fork on November 15, 2018. If you are among them, split your coins to avoid money losses: find a detailed guide here.
Top 7 Bitcoin SV Wallets
Now, let’s get back to the wallets. Here are the 7 BSV wallets with different features that have different scenarios of use:
Guarda is a multi-asset wallet that supports over 50 blockchains (hence hundreds of crypto assets, including BSV). Being available for all major mobile and desktop operating systems, Guarda offers users fast access to crypto irrespective of their location.
Guarda Wallet is non-custodial — this means it doesn’t have access to users’ funds as the private keys are encrypted and stored on users’ devices. In Guarda, you can buy BSV inside the wallet with a built-in exchange tool powered by ChangeNOW. Also, you can buy BSV with a credit card right there.
Choose Guarda if you want to have your Bitcoin SV at hand together with the rest of your portfolio.
Same as Guarda, Atomic Wallet is non-custodial, supports over 500 crypto assets, and is available for desktop and mobile. A built-in exchange allows you to buy BSV inside the wallet.
Atomic Wallet has similar features to Guarda, and if you want to store your BSV with other coins, try downloading both wallets to see what they look like. Even without any funds, you can evaluate their interfaces.
The first Edge wallet for Bitcoin was created in 2014, and since then, Edge has gained the trust of the users: its current rating is 4.5 on App Store. The wallet is available only for mobile phones (Android and iOS) and supports 11 cryptocurrencies: BTC, BCH, BSV, Litecoin, Dash, Ethereum, Stellar, Monero, Digibyte, EOS, and XRP. A handy built-in swap tool is available.
Compared to Guarda and Atomic, you login into Edge with a username and a password. Access is granted with a password or with a fingerprint. Despite the login system, Edge is also non-custodial, and you need a recovery phrase to enter the wallet from a new device. The wallet is open-source and implements a Hierarchical Deterministic model to change the address for each transaction for the sake of security. Edge offers its own guide on how to split BSV and BCH.
Coinomi is one of the first multi-asset wallets launched as early as 2014. This is a wallet with proven security — no one has ever managed to hack it in all these years.
Coinomi supports 125 blockchains, which is the most for the wallets on our list. All major mobile and desktop operating systems are represented. Same as all above, this wallet is non-custodial and allows for swapping cryptocurrencies right inside it.
On top of this, Coinomi offers some extra cool features:
- Here, you can import and manage an infinite number of wallets,
- Coinomi is WalletConnect-compatible — you can use it to seamlessly connect to Ethereum-based DApps including the DeFi ecosystem,
- For Bitcoin, you can connect to your own full node to sync with the blockchain without intermediaries. This requires gigabytes of disk space but adds security,
- Coinomi supports SegWit transactions for Bitcoin and Litecoin, allowing for faster confirmations and lower fees,
- You can pay with altcoins directly to Bitcoin addresses and vice versa.
These features are not about BSV per se. However, they might be important if you’re choosing a wallet to store not only BSV, but other coins, too.
Now, we’re starting with the BSV-only wallets. HandCash is one of those, and its team praises the coin so much that they even call themselves a Bitcoin wallet (while supporting only BSV). The development of HandCash was hailed by the BSV founder Craig Wright.
The wallet has a simple interface and is available for Android and iOS. Notably, it’s “keyless” — there’s no seed phrase and you only authorize via email and phone number; however, the wallet is still non-custodial and doesn’t have access to your money. HandCash allows for cheap nanopayments and connection with 3-rd party apps and games to earn BSV.
Centbee positions itself as the simplest BSV wallet (it also supports only this coin). It’s available for Android and iOS. Here, it’s easy to convert US Dollars into BSV and vice versa. In Centbee, you can see who accepts Bitcoin SV around you, and in different parts of the world, you can use the wallet to pay for electricity and mobile traffic.
This wallet is for the true fans of BSV and tech-savvy users. ElectrumSV is a fork of the Electrum wallet for Bitcoin — one of the first crypto wallets created in 2011. ElectrumSV was launched in 2018 by the BSV community, and same as its BTC counterpart, it’s open-source. The wallet is desktop-only (Windows, Mac, and source code for Linux).
You can use ElectrumSV to connect to the Ledger hardware wallet for the most secure storage of your BSV. Here’s their guide for splitting the BCH/BSV coins. Beware of fake versions of ElectrumSV: the only right domain is electrumsv.io.
Which BSV to choose?
Each of the 7 wallets is good — now, let’s decide which one is the best for you:
- If you want to manage your BSV together with the entire portfolio and swap the coin for other assets, download Guarda or Atomic.
- If on top of that you want to access DApps, get Coinomi.
- If you need a secure wallet with a narrow choice of the major altcoins, download Edge.
- If you are exclusively interested in BSV and especially in its real-world use, get Centbee.
- If you need a secure user-friendly BSV wallet supported by the coin’s founder — HandCash will be your choice.
- If you are an advanced user who wants something authentic and for whom a desktop version is enough — choose ElectrumSV.
